    Hi really need your help!

Refurb project. joists replaced, they aren’t small at 3inchx8 inch @ 350mm centers. joists coveredwith 18mm tongue and grove chipboard.

We are looking to cover 18mm chip with ditra mat or backer board. My question will the 18mm chipboard be ok with tiles. The entire flat will have tiles including the wet room.

What would you go for ditra or backer taking into consideration the 18mm ply.

18mm chipboard was picked, as it had the acoustic the membrane on the underside.

    Thanks for any help.

What do you mean, your post isn't clear. Will the tiles be ok on ditra mat/backer board on chipboard floor, or will the tiles be ok on just a chipboard floor? Where does 18mm ply come into it?

Yes they will be ok on ditra mat, backer board or 9-12mm ply glued and screwed down to the chipboard, your choice really, just make sure you use a powdered flexible adhesive and separate flexible grout, and prime the surface with tile primer or SBR before tiling. There are adhesives suitable for tiling direct to chipboard but I don't know how good they are and what type of tile you are having which may affect the bond strength and longevity.

Personally I would swap a wet room for a low profile shower tray, but that's mainly because I hate wetrooms :D Also, I always think wetrooms are a problem waiting to happen. Otherwise agree with Jord 100%. For preference I would use Ditra over chip and a large area.

I agree with Mr Rusty, wet rooms will be a problem at some point whether immediately or in the future. Look great though.
